LeadHer Shift Ep.2 ft. April Graham – Finding Freedom with a Leader’s Mindset

Episode 2 of LeadHer Shift features April Graham, a mindset coach who shares key shifts she's made from childhood trauma and major academic triumphs to the success of leading her life to freedom, as a coach, successful business owner and non-profit leader.

About April Graham

April D. Graham worked twenty-two years with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools. She started in the position of Teacher Assistant and worked her way to a school leader, Assistant Principal.

In her mission to coach ladies to lead and soar through adversity, Mrs. Graham established the America’s Leading Ladies Academy, a nonprofit with the 501(c3) designation, and launched a coaching business to offer personal support for ladies who are ready to reach their fullest potential.

She is a mindset coach, who is dedicated to rewiring the way ladies who are stuck see themselves. Her no nonsense, no excuses, won’t take no for an answer approach to helping you “break free” has empowered so many ladies to become the very best versions of themselves.

This Leading Lady, who has persevered, has earned four college degrees, manages a successful childcare business, and has earned a host of recognitions and distinctions in the field of education. Many who know her inquire about the possibility of her success when considering the odds that were stacked against her.

Mrs. Graham didn’t have parents who were college educated; causing her to become a first-generation college student. She struggled financially her entire childhood and early adulthood, had no support and even less resources to prepare her for success. However, what April D. Graham does have over her female counterparts is that SHE IS A LEADER, SHE IS A BELIEVER, and her mindset is that SHE WILL ALWAYS WIN!

Her favourite quote and words she lives by are:

“We must reject not only the stereotypes that others hold of us, but also the stereotypes that we hold of ourselves.”     ― Shirley Chisholm

In This Episode

April shares about how she calls herself the "Level-Up Queen", because she's learnt to level up through the obstacles, taking each step one level at a time.  This hunger and determination came when others tried to convince her she couldn't do more; however, April always held on to the fact that she was capable of over-coming any challenges she was facing, and that mindset kept her pressing forward.

As part of her journey to freedom, April found stillness in the midst of all the chaos and believes anyone seeking true happiness must get free from what everyone thinks or says you should be.  She got free of the fact that she's not for everyone, especially in feeling like she was not good enough, based on other persons' standards.

As such, April stands firm in helping women, who are burdened by others' opinions, to be rest assured that:

  1. Being who you are is even more important than being accepted by everyone, because who is for you, will appreciate just that; and,
  2. You are good enough because you are unique, a selected item and hand-made.  That level of exclusivity means your comfort in your own skin determines the quality of your inner circle, and you don't have to be ordinarily everyone else for the world to accept you.
