Do It Anyway: How Confidence Is Built in the Doing
Very often, we put things off—not because we don’t want them, but because we’re afraid of what the outcome might be.
We become painfully aware of how much time has passed, how little progress we’ve made, and how far we feel from where we want to be. And somehow, instead of that awareness pushing us into action, it slows us down. Sometimes it stops us altogether.
We call it procrastination, but beneath that word lies something deeper:
Fear. Doubt. Perfectionism. Paralysis.
We overthink.
We try to get it just right.
We tell ourselves, “Once I feel ready, then I’ll do it.”
But what if “ready” isn’t a feeling that comes before action?
What if “ready” is something that’s built through action?
I’ve seen it in myself and in the women I coach—brilliant, bold, capable women who hesitate, freeze, second-guess, and disqualify themselves from their own visions.
We think:
“Maybe someone else is better suited.”
“Maybe I’m not enough.”
“I know I can… but am I really good enough?”
Let me say this plainly: Nothing is ever perfect. Not your timing. Not your circumstances. Not your plan. And certainly not your inner critic.
But here’s some truth you may want to consider:
Confidence is not a prerequisite. It’s a byproduct.
It’s not something you wait for.
It’s something that meets you when you show up.
When you take the first step anyway.
When you move through the doubt anyway.
When you do it scared… and realize you didn’t pass out.
Every single time we choose courage over comfort, the grip of fear loosens just a little.
Every time we silence that voice of “I’m not enough” and speak up, show up, or start anyway, we chip away at the lie that says we can’t.
If you’ve been stuck, waiting for perfect conditions or perfect confidence, I want to you’re your hand tight and remind you:
You don’t need to feel ready to begin.
You just need to begin.
Let this be your permission slip.
